What does Easter mean to you?

What do you think about on Easter? Is it Easter bunnies, lilies, theCrucifixion, the cross, death, life, angels, family, friends, and/orEaster-egg hunts?

Who has had a decent Easter?

We had a religious service (extremely early in the morning, after which I fell asleep again), dinner and an outing, riding around the countryside. Bright sun, cold, still some snow on the ground but much of it gone; I took some digital pix but mostly I left that up to the real photographers — I’m [...]

In this day and age, are ‘good’ people swimming upstream?

like salmon runs, being wiped out by predators and the environment. more obstacles in the way. every year it is more difficult to reach the spawning grounds, every year there are fewer and fewer? remember Reagan’s ‘trickle down’ economic theory? do we have trickle down corruption, greed, lack of responsibility/accountability, ad nauseam?am I losing perspective, [...]

Arundhati Roy, who has been the basis for my last few questions, once said this:

"Soviet-style communism failed, not because it was intrinsically evil, but because it was flawed. It allowed too few people to usurp too much power. Twenty-first-century market capitalism, American-style, will fail for the same reasons. Both are edifices constructed by human intelligence, undone by human nature."
Do you think this is true? Why or why not?

Define bravery in your words?

Please no dictionary references. I want you to give me your opinion about true bravery.Think about:What would one do in this situation? (try to mention or create a situation)Thank you.

Many of evolutions ideas can not be substantiated by a fossil record or by good science…. In fact many reputable scientists today are becoming uncomfortable with this "theory" of evolution.

Will the candidates in this election take us closer to or further from this advice..?

"I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. In my youth I traveled much, and I observed in different countries, that [...]

Would you vote for an atheist president? If yes or no, please explain why.

Our personal beliefs, particularly the religious ones, do greatly influence our actions in practically everything, and so I have always wondered if a president who is free from specific beliefs would tend to be more objective and more tolerant to the beliefs of others due to the lack of prejudice coming from her or his [...]

Have we been brainwashed to think that revolving credit is a good thing?

It used to be (ha!) that people waited until they could afford things before they bought them. Then it became commonplace to buy things and pay for them later. Owing money used to have a stigma attached (other than a home/car). They used to be called Second Mortgages and raised eyebrows. Now they’re called Home [...]

Everywhere I look, I see another comment on Bush being the worst president we’ve ever had. I’ve even heard die hard Conservative Republicans complain that he was not the best one we ever had to elect. Come on people, surely Nixon has to be up there on the worst presidents list.

Are you finding that you reveal more of yourself here than you do to people in real life?

Is there a freedom here…perhaps in some situations an absence of judgment….a type of support that you would not get from the people closest to you?

Since no one else will ask the question , are you sickened at the sight of those little children

singing to and for Obama. These were songs of praise. When these children are older they will need counseling. I’ve only ever seen this in dictatorships.

When it comes to taxes, how much is enough?

Depending on where you live in the US, we pay an average of between 25% and 35% of our income in taxes. Many people pay much higher percentages, especially small business owners. Despite that, our government at every level is constantly claiming they need more money and higher taxes.
So, my question is, how [...]

What advice would you give to someone who is struggling with their "dark side"?

Everybody has a dark side to some extent. Some people deny it, others find a safe outlet for it and the rest embrace it. How much impact does your dark side have on your life? What do you do about it, and would you advise someone else to adopt the same approach?

Today is World Philosophy Day, so answer me this….."SHOULD WE KILL HEALTHY PEOPLE FOR THEIR ORGANS? (please read the rest of this question below)

Suppose Bill is a healthy man without family or loved ones. Would it be ok painlessly to kill him if his organs would save five people, one of whom needs a heart, another a kidney, and so on? If not, why not?
