How much of the film The Queen was based upon actual testimony, and how much was fictionalised and extrapolated from real events?

Obviously, the bits where the Royals are talking amongst themselves would be, at best, guesstimates of what might have been said, but how much of the film was pure fiction, and how much was supported by the evidence of the people around the Blairs and the Windsors?

In films, when someone’s opening a safe that doesn’t belong to them, what’s that business with the stethoscope all about?

How do these safes work anyway? Do the dials have to be moved to several different positions in sequence? If so, how does the stethoscope help? And would it really only take a few seconds to do it, as it does in the films?

Has anyone seen either Ironman or Indiana Jones Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? Would you recommend either for children?

My son would like to go to the movies tomorrow. There are no children’s movies out at the moment, and he’d really like to see one of those two. They are rated M, but we’ve seen a couple M movies (Transformers, Spiderman) which I’ve felt were okay for him. I’d particularly like [...]

What makes a good film or TV adaptation of a book?

I’m currently watching a BBC version of Dracula from the 70s which claims to be the most faithful adaptation of the story ever made. It’s got the events and the dialogue and the period trappings more or less right, but seems to have missed the point that Dracula is meant to be a horror story. [...]

Calling all (or both) Erik Sykes fans….do you remember this film….

-Called "One Way Pendulum".
From sometime in the 60s. Maybe 64?
Peggy Mount and Jonathan Millar starred (Millar as the weirdo kid).
All about Eric, a man with a wacky hobby, building a mini Old Bailey in his living room (natch, what else would you do?)…
Is it still avaailable on DVD because it never seems to be repeated [...]

Why did they stop the Saturday afternoon films like they used to show?

Years ago you would have had at least one musical, one comedy and the odd war or western film on a Saturday afternoon. Why did it all stop as everyone used to look forward to a Saturday afternoon with a good film like they used to make?

Does anyone know the name of the actor who played the big, bearded, gruff head consultant/doctor in the fifties and sixties ‘doctor’ films please?

I think Ian Carmichael may have been in some of them? This character was always bombastic, abrasive and irritable and frequently reprimanded his underlings. The actor always seemed to play very officious characters, he had a beard, was heavy looking and possibly Scottish? Thanks

In movies, why does the audio of the next scene often start before the visuals?

Why can I often hear music or dialog for the next scene overlapping the end of the current scene before it has even finished? I can hear the next scene before I can actually see it, surely there must be a reason for this?!

Who would you say is the greatest baddie ever on film?

For me it has to be the one and only "Darth Vader"
I’d also have to say a close second, "Biff", from Back to the Future. Three different time zones, and he’s always a nasty piece of work!

Why is it that you watch certain films, and when they are over, you are still left wondering what really happened? **Spoiler alert for ‘Reeker’ and ‘Adrift’***

I watched several movies this weekend, including the horror flick, ‘Reeker’, and ‘Adrift’, and for those two, I didn’t understand the endings.
In Reeker, was it all supposed to have been a hallucination caused by the car accident, or was there really a smelly demon killing the travellers, who just made it look like an accident?
And [...]

What happens to small film props after the filming has been wrapped up?

I heard a few days ago that 300 swords and all the replica armour from ‘Robin Hood – Prince of Thieves’ was simply dumped in a skip, which I find quite hard to believe. What happens to all the other little props, like crockery and soft furnishings that are used in big Hollywood (or [...]

My own favourites are The Wicker Man; Flash Gordon (inevitably); Pulp Fiction; and Valerie and Her Week of Wonders (the last is maybe a little obscure).
