Lakeland Mega Triathlon – could you do this?

My cousin Dave Slater is to attempt a world record over the weekend of 21/22 June in aid of the children’s hospice my daughter Indigo goes to – he is to swim 5.3 miles of Coniston Water, then get on his bike for 115miles doing the Fred Whitton route 2 for 115 miles and ascending 12,000 feet which is tougher than the mountain section of the Tour de France and then he will run the Bob Graham round of 66miles climbing over 28,000 feet that’s like climbing Everest!!! all in under 38 hours he hopes. Does anyone know if there is a record for this?

How did you select the charity you support?

Me? It’s easy. My grandad only ever supported the Salvation Army because "they were the only ones out there under fire" at the Somme – and MacMillan Nurses because of my parent’s experience. We had a religious service (extremely early in the morning, after which I fell asleep again), dinner and an outing, riding around the countryside. Bright sun, cold, still some snow on the ground but much of it gone; I took some digital pix but mostly I left that up to the real photographers — I’m not fanatical about keeping sentimental records, living "in the moment" instead. Is that a good Easter?

A friend and I are walking to raise funds for two children’s hospices.We’re going to start with London to Brighton, then plan for bigger things after that.

What does egg have to do with Easter day ?

I don’t get it. Every year when it comes to Easter day, eggs will be there. What does egg got to do with Easter day? What factors affect snoring?

The recent question on sleep deprivation reminded me of this, as did Neko’s reply. At home, I snore like a hippo – loud, long and persistent. However, on holiday, I barely made a nocturnal grunt. I did have a far fluffier pillow on holiday compared to at home, and the room was air conditioned – could these two conditions really affect me so much?

Ethics of charity gameshows….

Today, the eminently cheerful Jo Brand-lookalike John Sargeant quit Strictly Come Dancing saying "The trouble is that there is now a real danger that I might win the competition. Even for me that would be a joke too far."

The judges have been panning his performances week after week (albeit in a mildly encouraging way), and so it can easily be viewed that the better dancers were suffering due to his popularity rather than his talent.

Given that this show is effectively a charity fundraiser as well as a talent show, which do you think should be the priority? Do you think the charity takings will drop now that a very popular contestant has pulled out? Which would make you feel more guilty – being kept on the show despite a lack of talent, or leaving the show and potentially reducing the charitable takings?
