Have you checked out whether you’re being charged too much for your water and sewage ?

We got our water bill in and were somewhat shocked at how high it has become. Coincidently I caught a report on GMTV this morning.

We’re not on a water meter, and there are only two of us rattling around in a three bedroom house. Being on a meter would it seems save us a small fortune.

Depending on house type, and number of occupants, it may or may not be beneficial to switch to a water meter.

If you're a single person in a huge house, you're better off with a water meter. If you're a large family in a small house, you're better off without. Somewhere in the middle there's a switching point :-)

I saw what Martin Lewis said as well. The rates of the water goes back to the 90`s when poll tax came in and as not been changed since.
There is not alot you can do, re rates, mine as gone sky high to.
I live in a 2 bed place and its only me, but i have to pay to have a water meter put in and still pay for the standing charge.
So basically its swings and round-abouts. i wont win either way.
So i just have to pay up.

I used to pay my water charges through my rent, but when they stopped that the rent stayed the same with the exception of a few quid and the water charges tripled, since then i haven't paid them. Until they can justify their prices to me they wont have a penny! They can't cut me off without cutting off the whole floor of flats. I live on my own in a bedsit and im always out and about and staying at mates or parents so i don't use enough water to warrant their £30 a month charge. I wont pay it. If they want to stop the water that's fine i don't mind resorting to middle ages remedy's for the toilet and things it will just cause the council more cost. Incorporate it in with my rent and it will get paid like a few years back if not it wont be paid.

I'm on benifits and i can not afford to pay for Rent, Tax, Water rates, Sewer rates, TV licence, if i paid all them then i would have about £20 left for 2 weeks worth of shopping. Its not happening.

I have a water meter and to be honest I was better of without it as I seem to be paying at least £150 a year more now:(
